Harrisonburg Court Docket Records
Harrisonburg court docket records are kept by the Circuit Court Clerk and the General District Court for the 26th Judicial Circuit. Harrisonburg is an independent city in the Shenandoah Valley, surrounded by Rockingham County but operating its own court system. You can search court dockets for free using Virginia's public case lookup tools, or visit the courthouse in person to review filed documents, orders, and case history. This page explains both courts, how to find docket entries online, how to get copies, and what fees apply under Virginia law.
Harrisonburg Overview
Harrisonburg Circuit Court
The Harrisonburg Circuit Court is the main trial court for the city. It handles felony criminal cases, civil matters over $4,500, divorces, probate filings, and appeals from the General District Court. Harrisonburg shares the 26th Judicial Circuit with Rockingham County, but Harrisonburg city cases are filed with the Harrisonburg clerk, not the Rockingham County clerk. The two courts serve the same geographic area but maintain separate dockets and records.
You can reach the court and get current contact information through the Harrisonburg Circuit Court page on the Virginia Judicial System website. That page lists the clerk's address, phone number, court hours, and links to online case search tools. The Circuit Court Clerk's office manages all filed documents, processes copy requests, and can tell you what to bring when you visit in person.
Public access to circuit court records is guaranteed under Code of Virginia section 17.1-208. You do not need a lawyer or a specific reason to look up a case. The statewide Circuit Court Case Information System lets you search Harrisonburg dockets online by name or case number at no cost.
